Si estamos en la calle y nos quedamos sin batería en el teléfono o no podemos encontrar el lugar al que nos dirigimos podemos utilizar algunas de estas expresiones.
Frases Para Pedir Direcciones En Inglés
-Excuse me, do you know/ can/ could you tell me how to get to the city centre, please?
-Excuse Madam/ Sir, can/ could you tell me where the city centre is?
-How can I get to the city centre?
-Do you know where I can find the city centre?
-I´m looking for the city centre.Can you show me on the map how to get there please?
-Would you happen to know where the city centre is?
Si quisiéramos saber la distancia a la que nos encontramos con respecto a nuestro destino podemos preguntar:
-How far is the city centre from here?
-Where is it located?How long does it take to get there?
Posibles respuestas a estas preguntas:
-It’s two blocks / a couple of blocks away.
-It´s about a 10-minute walk./ Continue on this side of the street for 10 minutes.
-It’s too far to go on foot./ to walk.
-It’s better to go by bus.
-You should go by metro.
-You need to take a taxi or catch a bus.
Si estás perdido podés decir:
-Excuse me, I’m lost, can you help me please?
-Excuse me, I’m a little turned around. Could you tell me where to find the city centre?
Si la persona no conoce el lugar al que te dirigís ya sea porque no es de la zona, se acaba de mudar o es también un turista como vos seguramente te responderá:
-I’m sorry, I’m not from around here.
-I have no idea. Sorry.
-Oh, I’m not sure. You’d better ask someone else. Sorry.
En todos estos casos dirás: “Thanks anyway”.
Si queres asegurarte que estás en el camino correcto:

Si querés preguntar acerca de un medio de transporte público:
-Where’s the nearest tube station/ underground / subway station?
-Does the number 33 bus stop outside the train station?

¿Cómo Dar Direcciones En Inglés?

Para Seguir Derecho
-Go straight ahead the Main Street.
-Go straight down that street.
Estas son las expresiones típicas de un libro de texto sin embargo los “nativos” en general utilizan otras expresiones que muchas veces nos sorprenden o no llegamos a comprender.
Ellos dirán:
-Head down that way / Head up here / Head this way.
-Just go down that street. / Just follow this street.
-It’s basically that way.
Para Doblar
-Turn right/ left at the traffic lights
Es muy común que los nativos digan:
-Take a right / left at the traffic lights / on the first / second street.
-Take the road / street on the right / left
-Make a right / left at the traffic lights
-Hang a right / left at the traffic lights.
En general se usan ciertos “puntos de referencia” o indicadores para que sea más fácil llegar a un lugar:
-Continue going straight ahead until you reach Kensington Park. The museum is next to it / just around the corner.
-Carry straight on until you get to the City Hall, Victoria Market is across the street opposite the City Hall.
-Keep going until you see the bank on the corner. If you cross the street you’ll find the National Gallery on your left.
-Walk down this avenue till you get to the Public Library. Go past it and you’ll find the department store.
-Don’t stop until you get to the coffee shop with the red roof, which is right next to the movie theatre.
Agregar detalles y referencias es muy común cuando damos o recibimos indicaciones por eso es bueno asegurarnos de que las entendimos y podemos recordarlas.
Es conveniente resumirlas y repetirlas para verificar si realmente las comprendimos..

Se puede utilizar palabras como “First”, “and then”, “make sure you…” “After that”, “Finally” para dar direcciones de una manera más clara y organizada siguiendo pequeños pasos.
Cuando Vamos en Auto Utilizaremos Estas Frases en Inglés
-Follow the signs to the airport.
-It´is well signposted. You will find it
-Take exit 55
-It’s a 5-minute drive
-It´s about a mile / kilometre away
-Cross at the road sign.
-Continue driving on this side of the road for about 10 minutes.
Si tomaste la ruta o el camino equivocado
-Turn around
-You are going the wrong way!
-Make a U-turn
